The Macon Water Authority has contracted with Utility Asset Management to repair a portion of the utility’s stormwater system located at 1279 Telfair Street

Macon, GA – According to the city officials, the work started Monday, April 3, and will continue for approximately one month.

The rehabilitation work on Telfair Street comes after a sink hole formed at this site, impacting the line at this portion of the MWA stormwater system, due primarily to the extensive rainfall during the previous week.

The MWA Stormwater Division has conducted repairs and ongoing maintenance in this area of the stormwater system previously, but the sink hole under the parking lot on site occurred at an older portion of the stormwater system that consisted of old brick pipe, requiring a complete rehabilitation.

As stormwater flow of considerable volume continues in this area after rain events, UAM will be installing a bypass system to handle that flow while the rehabilitation of the failed stormwater pipe takes place.

The bypass will cross Telfair Street, requiring the street to close for cleaning, reinforcing, spray lining and curing of the failed line.
