BCSO investigating pedestrian-involved fatal collision on Irwinton Road

Macon, GA – According to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, the incident was called into the Macon-Bibb Emergency-911 Center at 1:39 a.m. Thursday.

Deputies responded to Irwinton Road in response to a male unresponsive in the roadway, near Hitchcock Road.

When deputies arrived in the area, a pedestrian was located lying along the fog line of the road.

The pedestrian had succumbed to injury. Deputy Coroner Lonnie Miley pronounced James Otis Collins deceased on the scene.

According to Deputy Coroner Lonnie Miley, the next of kin has been notified.

Investigators determined that the pedestrian appeared to have been struck by a motor vehicle. 

The driver of the vehicle did not return to the scene to report the incident. The driver and vehicle are unknown at this time.

According to Coroner Lonnie Miley, an autopsy will be performed.
