Ribbon cutting ceremony marks opening of the Innovation and Technology Academy in Macon-Bibb County
Macon, GA – On Thursday, December 5, 2024, the Bibb County School District and Macon-Bibb County hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of the Innovation and Technology Academy. The event highlighted the community’s commitment to fostering a skilled, tech-savvy workforce through advanced educational opportunities.
Dr. Cassandra Washington, Executive Director of Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education (CTAE) and CEO of Hutchings College and Career Academy, emphasized the Academy’s purpose. “The Innovation and Technology Academy is proof that the Macon-Bibb County community is forward-thinking, ensuring we cultivate a skilled, innovative, and tech-savvy workforce by creating a cutting-edge educational facility,” she said. She added that the Academy focuses on nurturing creativity and adaptability to prepare students for leadership roles in tomorrow’s workforce.
The Innovation and Technology Academy represents the Bibb County School District’s ongoing efforts to enhance CTAE pathways and programs. These initiatives are designed to include opportunities for public and private partnerships as well as workforce development. The Academy’s creation was made possible through collaboration between the School District, Macon-Bibb County, and the Urban Development Authority, with the building generously donated by Butler Collision Center.
Mayor Lester Miller reflected on his role in bringing the project to life. “During my time as Bibb County School Board President, I saw a need for expanding the tools our students need to enter the workforce. When this building became available, I knew it could be the perfect fit,” he said. “I am so proud to partner with our School District in welcoming this new resource in our community that will help shape the lives and futures of our kids.”
The building has been repurposed into an educational facility focused on career readiness and workforce development through innovative CTAE pathways. It now serves as an extension of the William S. Hutchings College and Career Academy, furthering its mission to prepare students for success in an evolving job market.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony marked a significant milestone for the Bibb County School District and the Macon-Bibb County community, underscoring their shared vision for the future of education and workforce development.
